HP has been chosen to receive an Outstanding Achievement Award in Ease of Use for its new HP Smart Install installation routine. This installation routine for users in Windows environments simplifies setup and installation of HP’s newest laser printers because the software resides on the printer, eliminating the need for an installation CD.
“HP Smart Install has set a new bar for ease of software installation,” said BLI Senior Printer Analyst Marlene Orr. “Users simply plug in the power cord, connect the printer to the PC with a USB cable and follow the prompts. This means any user, from tech-savvy mobile users to novice and even home users, can be ready to print in just a few clicks of the mouse, with no CD required.”
“In today’s fast-paced environment, HP understands that people need solutions that can keep up with them. That’s why we recently introduced Smart Install, the industry’s first ‘plug and print’ technology for CD-free driver installations in as fast as two minutes,” said Ken Fleming, director of marketing for LaserJet and Enterprise Solutions – Americas with HP’s Imaging and Printing Group. “Smart Install is just the first step in an evolving movement to streamline the customer experience—now owners of laptops, desktops and netbooks can quickly download a driver and print, even without a CD drive. This recognition from Buyers Lab, Inc. underscores HP’s commitment to deliver increased value and solve our customers’ most challenging issues.”
Epson’s Low CPP Equals High Value
Epson has been chosen to receive an Outstanding Achievement Award in Value for the Epson B-510DN. One of Epson’s first business-class single-function inkjet printers, the B-510DN offers a cost per page lower than that of any desktop inkjet printer tested by BLI to date.
“Traditional business users were generally cautioned to steer clear of inkjet printers, due to their high cost per page,” said BLI’s Orr. “And while we have seen increased value in ink as cartridge prices, and per page costs, have gone down, Epson has set a new standard with this product. No other desktop model we’ve tested has even come close to the extremely high ink yields and incredibly low cost per page of the B-510DN.”
