Four Vendors Awarded BLI “Picks” For Monochrome Printers and MFPs

June 30, 2010 - Hackensack (NJ) – In its Summer 2010 printer “Picks” announcements, BLI recognized the outstanding monochrome printer and MFPs tested in the past six month for performance and features that set them above their competitors.
After evaluating the performance, features and value proposition of a broad range of models, BLI, the world’s leading evaluator of document imaging hardware and software, honored products from four vendors as the top performers, with Dell, Kyocera, Samsung and Sharp taking top honors:

Dell Inc.
Dell 3333dn/3335dn
Outstanding Small Workgroup Monochrome Multifunction Printer

Kyocera Mita Corporation
Kyocera FS-1128MFP
Outstanding Personal Monochrome Multifunction Printer

Samsung Electronics Company, Ltd.
Samsung ML-2525W
Outstanding Personal Monochrome Printer

Sharp Electronics
Sharp MX-B400P
Outstanding Large Workgroup Monochrome Printer

Sharp’s Winning Streak Continues
A printer-only version of the Fall 2009 BLI “Pick”-winning MX-B401 MFP, the Sharp MX-B400P has earned BLI’s Spring 2010 “Pick” in the large workgroup monochrome printer category. Since the introduction of its A4 “Frontier” series of products, Sharp has continued to wow users and BLI technicians alike, providing a cost-effective mix of features and performance that deliver a viable alternative to larger, more expensive models when 11?-x-17? output isn’t needed.
“I’m not easily impressed, but the MX-B400P exceeded my expectations on many levels. Start with its flawless reliability performance, add in its crisp, clean output, robust security features and an impressive overall value proposition and you have the recipe for success,” said BLI Associate Editor Carl Schell. “Topping it off, Sharp incorporates an open architecture design and integration with OSA applications to allow users to add software to customize workflows and increase worker productivity.”
“With the MX-B400P being awarded Outstanding Large Workgroup Monochrome Printer, Sharp has now had every model in our Frontier series win one of BLI's prestigious ‘Pick of the Year’ awards,” said Gary Bailer, Associate Director A4 MFPs, Sharp Imaging and Information Company of America. “Being recognized by a leading industry organization like BLI truly validates Sharp's design, engineering and production capabilities and is a tribute to the world-class products we provide.”
Dell’s Solutions-Ready Devices: Smart, Simple and Affordable
An outstanding choice for small workgroups with more robust needs, the 3333dn and 3335dn have earned BLI’s “Pick” for their outstanding feature set, flawless reliability and admirable productivity, as well as a purchase price that is among the lowest for printers in their class.
“The 3333dn and 3335dn incorporate easy-to-use customizable touch-screen interfaces and workgroup functionality in a relatively compact footprint,” said BLI Assistant Editor Marc Bussanich. “Users can preview scans on the LCD screen before sending or saving, and can even save their customized settings and address books onto a USB flash drive.” Another advantage of the 3333dn and 3335dn is that both are compatible with Dell’s new document management systems, which are specifically designed for vertical markets such as healthcare, education and legal applications, and the Remote Operator Panel, which lets administrators remotely view and change settings on the LCD screen.
Kyocera Packs a Punch in a Personal MFP
Awarded BLI’s “Pick” in the personal monochrome MFP category, Kyocera’s FS-1128MFP has a robust design, includes standard print, copy, scan and fax functionality and an RADF for multi-page scanning. Walk-up users will appreciate the ability to print files directly from USB memory sticks—as well as per-page supplies costs that are among the lowest of competitive printers in this market sector.
David Sweetnam, BLI’s European Laboratory and Research Manager praised the FS-1128MFP’s ease of use, noting, “The unit is easy to manage using Kmnet Viewer, which can assign specific alerts to different recipients, while the Kyocera Command Center provides users with a very good level of detail about device status, paper size, approximate percentage of paper remaining and toner supplies.”
Samsung Makes Ideal Choice for Personal Printer
The Samsung ML-2525W was chosen as BLI’s “Pick” in the personal monochrome printer category for its outstanding ease of use, flawless reliability over the course of its 6,000-impression durability test and low cost of ownership. “The ML-2525W includes standard wireless connectivity for about the same price as many USB-only competitors,” said BLI Senior Test Technician Tony Maceri. “It’s compact and light enough to be set up by a single user and takes only four clicks of the mouse to install the drivers, so users will be up and running in just minutes. Plus, the included Smart Panel utility keeps them informed of status, making it a great choice for low-volume users.” Other strengths of the ML-2525W include Samsung’s AnyWeb Print software that allows users to copy and paste content from different Web sites onto a blank page and then print it; a Toner-Save mode, which helps extend the life of the cartridge; and an above-average performance in the BLI job stream test.
“We are honored to receive BLI’s Pick for Outstanding Personal Monochrome Printer for Summer 2010,” said Ken Colby director of printer marketing at Samsung Electronics Information Technology Division, “Samsung is focused on providing products, like the ML-2525W, that are designed to exceed customer expectations in performance, reliability, ease-of-use and value. We appreciate BLI recognizing our teams’ efforts by honoring us with this award.”
