HP Scanjet Enterprise 7000n/nx Breaks New Ground
The fastest network scanner tested by BLI to date, the Scanjet Enterprise 7000n proved to be an exceptional overall performer during BLI’s lab evaluation, earning it a 2010 “Pick” for “Outstanding Network Scanner.” In addition to its fast speed, this 40-ppm scanner offers a variety of time-saving features, such as the ability for users to program a virtually unlimited number of scan profiles for frequently used scan jobs, multi-feed detection and LDAP support. “It was surprising to see a network scanner with such excellent productivity,” said Lisa Reider, BLI’s senior product editor for scanners and environmental. “This is truly a first for the network scanner arena.”
Superior speed isn’t the only thing differentiating the Scanjet Enterprise 7000n from the competition. This unit also exhibited better than average OCR results, has a user-friendly design and offers a variety of security features. For example, the Scanjet Enterprise 7000nx offers all of the same features as its sister model, the Scanjet Enterprise 7000n—the configuration tested, but with two levels of overwrite protection for its 80-GB hard drive.
“Designed for distributed workflow environments, the HP Scanjet Enterprise 7000n Document Capture Workstation simplifies document-intensive processes, enabling companies to manage the flow of data to accelerate business results, increase productivity and reduce environmental impact,” said Miguel Alvarez, HP’s director of engineering for scanner development. “HP is pleased to receive Buyers Laboratory Inc.’s ‘Pick’ for ‘Outstanding Network Scanner’ because it underscores our commitment to helping businesses easily and securely manage their digital assets. This recognition highlights the many innovations that come with the Scanjet Enterprise 7000n, including the HP Easy Select full-color touch-screen control panel with full keyboard, HP Precision Feed technologies, robust security features and the ability to manage the device with HP Web Jetadmin.”
Panasonic KV-S1045C Provides More for Less
In the workgroup category, the KV-S1045C won a “Pick” for its excellent overall performance. In fact, the KV-S1045C earned BLI’s highest rating (“Excellent”) not only for Reliability, Media Handling and Image Processing, but also for Ease of User Maintenance, a category not often granted such a high rating. The KV-S1045C also scans long documents up to 100", provides a larger than average document feeder capacity and has the fastest color scan speed of workgroup units tested to date. “The KV-S1045C leverages Panasonic’s proven advanced scan technology to once again surpass our expectations,” said BLI Test Technician Joe Ellerman.
In addition, the ENERGY STAR-qualified and EU RoHS-compliant KV-S1045C offers the ability for users to program up to 50 scan profiles, all for a lower than average price.
"Being honored by Buyers Lab is special because of its five decades of commitment to scrupulously unbiased and independent testing of document processing hardware," PSNA Product Manager Bob Curci said. "Panasonic's KV-S1045C, the recipient of BLI's ‘Pick of the Year’ award for ‘Outstanding Workgroup Scanner,’ incorporates Panasonic's revolutionary automatic image detection and correction circuitry, and has proven itself as a workhorse in the workgroup scanner category."
Canon imageFORMULA P-150 Makes a Big Impact
Canon recently introduced its first ADF-equipped mobile scanning device and, as a result, may change the way people think of mobile scanning. With the imageFORMULA P-150, slow, single-sheet mobile scanning becomes a thing of the past—one of the many reasons this ADF-equipped mobile device won a “Pick” for “Outstanding Mobile Scanner.”
The P-150 proved to be the fastest tested mobile scanner when connected via USB. In fact, the P-150 is the only mobile scanner tested that did not significantly slow down when connected via USB. Plus, it offers a 20-sheet document feeder, the ability for users to program up to 10 scan profiles and Canon’s new award-winning scan driver (see below). According to Ellerman, the P-150 is “very easy to use and offers a smaller footprint than those of other ADF-equipped mobile scanners tested.” Further, this versatile unit is as suitable for on-the-go professionals as it is for the front office.

Imaging Systems Group’s vice president and general manager. “Canon is committed to meeting the unique needs of the evolving mobile document imaging and management marketplaces and receiving this prestigious accolade is a testament to that commitment.”
