Buyers Laboratory - Press Release

BLI Names MFP Printer “Pick” Winners

November 28, 2007 - Hackensack (NJ) – Continuing with its prestigious Fall 2007 “Pick” awards, Buyers Lab announced that products from Canon, Dell, Lexmark and Xerox have earned kudos in the monochrome multifunction printer category. Still a key growth area for all of the major vendors, multifunction printers allow customers to consolidate print, copy and scan functionality at a lower acquisition cost than traditional copier-centric MFPs.
Each year, BLI puts numerous products through a rigorous battery of in-depth lab tests, during which the company evaluates all critical performance areas, including reliability, multitasking, image quality, productivity, print drivers, feedback to workstations, administrative utilities, ease of use, network setup, toner yield and more. Twice yearly, BLI acknowledges the products that have given the best overall performance in each competitive category with its “Pick” awards.
And the Fall 2007 Monochrome MFP Printer “Pick” winners are…

"With encryption, authentication, multiple LDAP features, the ability to disable various functions and to set up accounts using MarkVision to restrict access to various functions, its offering of security features is also very impressive."
"With outstanding print quality, impressive speed and unique features such as the intuitive eTask touch-screen interface, the Lexmark X644e is designed to improve productivity by helping customers bridge the digital and paper worlds easily, quickly and more securely," said Marty Canning, Lexmark vice president and president of its Printing Solutions and Services Division. Dell Recognized In Small Workgroup MFP Printer Category
Selected as the winner of BLI's “Pick” award in the small workgroup monochrome multifunction printer category, the Dell Multifunction Laser Printer 1815dn provided an impressive performance throughout testing. “The Dell 1815dn offers outstanding reliability, admirable image quality in print and copy modes and excellent productivity at a low acquisition cost,” said BLI Senior Test Engineer Paul DePaolo. “A standard network interface, automatic duplexing and a USB port on the front of the device that allows users to print from or scan to a USB thumb drive further adds to its value.”
"Receiving BLI's Fall Pick award for the Dell Multifunction Laser 1815dn underscores Dell's consistent delivery of what customers most value: exceptional reliability and performance," said Tim Peters, vice president of Dell printing and imaging. "This award further emphasizes how Dell continues to re-define industry standards by providing the best printing products."
Canon Honored In Networked Personal MFP Printer Category

Xerox Takes Award in Non-Networked Personal Monochrome Category
Xerox was acknowledged in the personal non-networked monochrome multifunction printer category, with the Phaser 3200 MFP/B being selected as the “Pick” winner. Marlene Orr, senior printer analyst for BLI, stated, "The Xerox Phaser 3200 MFP offers remarkable ease of use, exceptional reliability and good-quality output in an extremely compact footprint. Taking up no more space on the desktop than a personal printer, it's a great choice for small offices and home offices that need a desktop printer with convenience copying, scanning and faxing.”
“Customers shouldn't have to sacrifice advanced features or affordability when purchasing a multifunction printer,” said Robin Wessel, director of product marketing, Xerox Office Group. “It's rewarding that Buyers Laboratory recognizes the Phaser 3200MFP as an excellent combination of features and value for any small or medium business.”
