Nuance Signs Agreement with EMC to Bring ISIS Scanning to Nuance Desktop Applications
Nuance Communications has announced that Nuance desktop document imaging products will support EMC Captiva ISIS, the industry standard enterprise-level interface for scanners. The support for ISIS, when added to Nuance’s current support for TWAIN and WIA devices, results in Nuance having the most comprehensive support for scanning devices in the desktop software industry.

The agreement with EMC enables Nuance to add support for ISIS to its full line of market-leading office productivity applications, enhancing the scanning speed and image quality from multifunction devices and dedicated scanners. Nuance plans to add ISIS support to Nuance PDF Converter Professional, the number one alternative to Adobe Acrobat; Nuance PaperPort, the best selling document management application for the PC; and Nuance OmniPage Professional, the most accurate document conversion and OCR software (optical character recognition) application for Microsoft Windows. Nuance also plans to add ISIS scanner driver support to the Nuance OmniPage Capture SDK, the leading software developer toolkit for adding scanning, document capture, PDF and document conversion capabilities to Microsoft Windows applications.

“There is increasing demand for professional-level scanning at the desktop,” said Barry Ruditsky, vice president of OEM Sales, Content Management and Archiving Division at EMC. “The combination of Nuance desktop applications and EMC Captiva ISIS technology will allow Nuance to extend the benefit of ISIS scanning on the desktop to office workers worldwide.”

Millions of users have embraced the productivity benefits of Nuance desktop applications, turning PDF files and paper documents into fully editable Microsoft Office documents, and turning paper documents into searchable PDF files that are seamlessly stored in centralized document repositories, such as Microsoft SharePoint.  As users and organizations have expanded their use of Nuance solutions, demand has grown at the desktop for the speed and quality of scanning that ISIS-enabled solutions deliver.

“Nuance’s desktop productivity applications are renown for leading accuracy and innovative features,” said Robert Weideman, general manager and senior vice president of the Nuance Document Imaging Division. “ISIS will help us take document productivity to the next level, providing our users with faster, higher quality and more reliable scans.”
