Centralized and Mobile Scanning Made Easy
When compared with competitive A4 network scanners tested to date, the Brother ADS-3600W provides fast speeds when measuring software processing times, can accept a wider than average range of paper weights from its ADF and offers NFC functionality, a first for network scanners tested, which all helped it earn Pick recognition for the Summer 2016 test season. Plus, users can access a variety of saved scan profiles and settings directly from the unit’s touchscreen control panel, and route data to various cloud repositories.

“A first for scanners tested by BLI, the ADS-3600W provides NFC functionality, which lets users access the Brother iPrint&Scan app on their mobile devices simply by placing the mobile device near the ‘NFC’ symbol on the scanner’s control panel. The app adds basic scan functionality to compatible mobile devices, helping to further promote the scanner as a kiosk-style scan station that any walk-up user can operate,” said BLI Manager of Lab Operations Joe Ellerman.

The unique control panel and SD-card scanning capabilities found on Brother DSmobile 820W and DSmobile 920DW scanners are virtually unheard of in the single-sheet mobile scanner market. In fact, most single-sheet mobile scanners lack anything more than a single Scan key on the scanner’s control panel. The Brother units provides an LCD screen and various dedicated keys that help to change settings without a connected PC.

“In addition to its control panel design, users can scan directly to an included SD card, helping to further untether the device from the usual requirement of a connected PC,” said Ellerman. “We are proud to honor Brother with an Outstanding Achievement award for this innovative product design, and we look forward to seeing what the company can accomplish with future iterations.”

From High Speeds to Mobile Efficiency, Fujitsu Covers the Spectrum
The 130-ppm (260 ipm) Fujitsu fi-6800 provides a host of features that helped it stand above the competition during the Summer 2016 test season, including faster than average multi-page speeds in auto color mode; Intelligent Multi-Feed Function, which recognizes document attachments to reduce mistaken double-feeds; and its exceptional PaperStream Capture software, which lets users customize workflows, carefully alter images and automatically index data as part of a scan profile. BLI also honored the ScanSnap iX100, Fujitsu’s single-sheet mobile scanner, with the first Pick award for Outstanding Single-Sheet Mobile Scanner for its fast speeds, small footprint, ability to connect with a variety of cloud repositories and wireless interface. Plus, the iX100 uses the same ScanSnap utilities as Fujitsu’s compatible ADF-equipped models, helping to reduce the learning curve among seasoned Fujitsu ScanSnap users.

“Fujitsu is known for its quality scan products and the ScanSnap iX100 and Fujitsu fi-6800 help to demonstrate the breadth of the company’s product line,” said Lisa Reider, BLI’s senior product editor for scanners. “Whether you work in a paper-intensive vertical or are just a frequent traveler that wants to organize data while on the road, Fujitsu will have a scanner that fits your needs.”

Exceptional Options for Small and Large Operations
Built upon the same BLI-award-winning foundation as previous KODAK ScanMate products, the KODAK i1190 Series offers all of the great features users come to expect from Kodak Alaris, including Smart Touch technology to help customize settings for frequently used operations; the ability to scan to various third-party repositories, such as those housed in the cloud, and Kodak Capture Pro Limited Edition software, which lets users manage batches, create indexing fields, OCR via drag-and-drop functionality and more. The i1190 Series also comes with a standard three-year warranty and demonstrated better than average OCR accuracy for most documents tested, making it an ideal fit for workgroup scanning environments looking for a versatile 40-ppm scanner. And for those looking for something fast yet affordable, Kodak Alaris provides the 150-ppm (300 ipm) i4850. As with the i1190 Series, the i4850 provides the same robust proprietary capture software and lets users customize and save profiles for frequently used operations. But what sets the i4850 apart most is its significantly lower than average estimated cost per page, which is made possible by the variety of maintenance kits the company provides. The easy to use design, low overall cost and feature-rich software helped the KODAK i4850 earn this season’s Pick for Outstanding Budget-Friendly A3 High-Volume Production Scanner.

”Kodak Alaris has a tradition of creating quality and award-winning scanners, and this series of scanners is no exception," said Ellerman. ”Their easy to use design, outstanding overall performance, high reliability and versatility helped them outshine the competition. We are proud to honor this series of scanners with a BLI Pick award.”

Data Distribution to Ease Departmental Worries
BLI awarded the Panasonic KV-S2087 with a BLI Summer 2016 Pick award for Outstanding A4 Departmental Scanner after achieving faster than average multi-page speeds and better than average OCR accuracy for half the documents tested all for a lower than average estimated cost per scan. The unit also provides a larger than average ADF able to handle a variety of paper weights and sizes. Plus, Panasonic’s Image Capture Plus software includes several unique features that helps users fine-tune scanned images to achieve optimum results.

“We are proud to honor the Panasonic KV-S2087 with a BLI Summer 2016 Pick award for its outstanding overall performance and excellent proprietary capture solution,” said Reider. “These achievements and more make the KV-S2087 a great fit for departmental scanning environments looking for a fast A4 scanner capable of processing up to 10,000 pages a day.”

Workgroup Versatility at an Affordable Price
An outstanding overall performer, the Plustek SmartOffice PS3060U offers faster than average multi-page black-and-white speeds and better than average OCR accuracy for most documents tested. Plus, the unit includes support for Windows, Mac and Linux operating systems all for a lower than average price.

“In addition to its software and OS versatility, the Plustek SmartOffice PS3060U comes with a 50-sheet document feeder that can handle a wider than average range of paper sizes, including long documents up to 200", which helps it fit into a variety of vertical settings that may require users to scan anything from thick plastic ID cards to an EKG sheet,” said Ellerman. “Plus, its smaller than average footprint makes it ideal for front office use. These features are just a few of the examples that facilitated its Summer 2016 BLI Pick win.”
